Lamb of God Lutheran Church to hold ‘Renaissance Faire’

MADISON – The Lamb of God Lutheran Church on County Line Road will be throwing it back a few centuries on Nov. 1 for the church’s first Renaissance Faire, a celebration and observance of the era when Marin Luther wrote the history-altering Ninety-Five Theses in 1517.
The event will run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and will take place at the church’s campus located at 11716 County Line Road in Madison.
“We’re really just trying to tell the story of Martin Luther and the Reformation,” pastor John Roebke said.
The Middle Ages theme will be visible in every nook and cranny, with an Archery demonstration and European-themed food being catered by Café on Wheels Neon Lilly, a food truck that specializes in Eastern European cuisine.
There will also be a bouncy castle, connecting the two eras in more ways than one.
“A lot of the human issues he was dealing with back then are coming up now in a lot of places,” Roebke said.
A geo cache hunt will be offered to stimulate those interested with prizes for the successful treasure seekers. Arts and crafts will be scattered around the church. A “1500s stage” will be set up inside for medieval entertainment.
Roebke said he got the idea to do a Lutheran-themed renaissance fair while in Florida for a conference and got the confidence his church could pull it off from Cullman County.
“I said, ‘If Cullman can do a dry Oktoberfest without alcohol, we can do a Christian Renaissance Faire,’” Roebke said with a laugh.
More or less, Roebke said, he hopes all who are interested will come and see what the Church is about.
“Whether you are Christian, Lutheran or anything else, we encourage you to come out,” Roebke said.
Parking will be offered in the church’s back and side lots.
