James Clemens has 7 National Merit Finalists

MADISON – Seven James Clemens High School students are National Merit Finalists — Josh Abreo, Yasanka Chalasani, Sunny Chennupati, Jared Kennard, Allen King, Kaitlynn Krupp and Jacob Laney.

Abreo participates in National Honor Society, cross-country team and Quiz Bowl. He has numerous national- and state-level science awards.

His parents are Dennis and Felicia Abreo. Josh plans to major in either chemical or electrical engineering.

Chalasani participates in varsity tennis, captain and two-time sectional champion; cross-country; Superintendent’s Youth Leadership Committee; Student Government Association; Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA); and Mu Alpha Theta.

His honors include Wendy’s Heisman Alabama and national debate finalist in HOSA. Chalasani’s parents are Chowdary and Sireesha Chalasani.

Chalasani will major in philosophy on track for medical school.

Krupp is a member of James Clemens Band and Winter Guard, Student Ambassadors, National Honor Society and national honor societies for Spanish and art. She earned Girls Scouts’ Silver Award.

Her parents are Staci and Don Krupp. She plans to attend Auburn University and major in pre-pharmacy.

King will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy and major in aerospace engineering. His parents are Rick and Molly King.

King is involved with National Honor Society, Scholars Bowl, Math Team and Science Olympiad. He received the DAR Citizenship and Eagle Scout of the Year awards.

Chennupati participates in Math Team, Science Bowl, Scholars Bowl, Science Olympiad and HOSA. He has won national recognition in mathematics and science.

His parents are Rama and Jayanthi Chennupati. He hopes to attend Brown University, Vanderbilt University or University of Miami with a pre-medicine track.

Kennard is involved with James Technical Theatre and is an A Honor Roll scholar.

His parents are William and Lisa Kennard. Jared will attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham and major in biology.

Laney participates in Scholars Bowl, cross-country, soccer and Science Bowl. He is an advanced-placement scholar with distinction and had highest GPA in sports in fall 2014.

His parents are Patrick and Crysti Laney. Jacob has been accepted at Georgia Tech and Auburn and plans to study computer science or electrical engineering.
