Stephen Arthur Gathof December 29, 1929 – April 3, 2015

Stephen A. Gathof, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2015 at his residence in Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Chester and Mary Browning Gathof; his loving wife of 45 years, Doris Moore Gathof; and a grandson, Charles Stephen Dupree.

Mr. Gathof is survived by his 4 daughters, Valerie Worthy (Steve) of Toney, Terry Griffith (Randy) of Huntsville, Pamela Gathof of Hazel Green, and Lauri Rosamund ( Bill) of Lexington, KY; 3 sisters, Ginger Skaggs, Joyce Grider, Shirley Craddock, all of Louisville; 1 brother, Thomas Gathof (Dee) of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and several other friends and relatives.

Stephen was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army having served as a Master Sergeant in the Korean War. He loved his country and proved his patriotism with a military service record of close to 30 years! “Papa” as he was affectionately known, was a family man who loved being around family and especially fishing with his grandson Charlie. He was also a trivia expert and probably master level in his trivia knowledge when it came to Jeopardy. Steve Gathof was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him!

Visitation was held with the family on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Valhalla Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM. The funeral service immediately followed and was conducted by Pastor Eric Fuller at 2:00 PM in Valhalla’s chapel. The interment, with military honors followed in Valhalla Memory Garden’s Veteran Section.
