Offensive Explosion Dooms Bulldogs

BY SCOTT WRIGHT / SPECIAL TO THE RECORD

The Bulldogs and the Mustangs face off in a 3A clash.  After a Mustang three and out, the Geraldine offense would put together a strong first drive.

The drive would end after the Bulldogs fumbled the ball back to Madison Academy in Mustang territory.

The first punt by the Mustangs’ Chandler Trach would be his only punt as the Mustangs would score on their next three drives.

A touchdown pass from Hunter Olive to Chandler Trach and two Logan Hamlett rushing touchdowns would account for the 21-7 Mustang lead at the half.

The second half began with a blitz as the very first Geraldine pass of the game was intercepted by Nick Haas, returned for twenty yards, then gained fifteen additional yards after a late hit penalty was called.  The Mustangs would waste little time getting to the goal line and fullback Marcus Sease would score his first of two touchdowns.  The “Wing-T” offense employed by Geraldine would be somewhat effective for most of the contest, but after going down 35-7 to the Mustangs after Sease’s second touchdown, the clock became their worst enemy.  In the fourth quarter, both teams would score rushing touchdowns putting the final score at 49-14 in favor of Madison Academy.

The Mustangs were lead by Hunter Olive and an unbelievable running attack, but these past few weeks of domination can be attributed to the unity of a developing offensive line.  Cole Swearingen, Blake Copeland, Nick Holman, Frank Williams, and a now-injured Cole Corder have developed into a major plus for the Mustangs.  Several others rotate into these positions with the MA offense never missing a beat.  Tonight’s victory takes Madison Academy to 6-2 on the year as they finish their season up with Brindlee Mountain and West Limestone before postseason play begins.
