Panel eyes annexation possibilities for future/Madison envisioned as city of roughly 50,000, 75,000 or 100,000 – A Madison of 95,500 could mean 20,362 students, 14 elementary schools, seven middle schools, four high schools "and a new superintendent," joked Madison City Schools Superintendent Dr. Henry Clark. Future annexation of Madison could stop near County Line Road or go west three miles to Powell Road or stop in between. U.S. Highway 72 west and northwest of current city limits considered in most cases.
SAT scores put Madison next to prestigious Birmingham suburbs – Results from the SAT (Standard Achievement Test) ranked students at Madison City Schools fourth from the top among the states 128 school systems. Three of the top eight systems were here in Madison County. The top eight systems were Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Madison, Hoover, Athens, Madison County and Huntsville.
Like to walk? $300,000 and vie miles worth of sidewalks coming – Five miles of sidewalks costing some $300,000 will be built to like major city streets and public schools. Roads to receive sidewalks include Gillespie Road, County Line Road, Mill Road and Eastview Drive.
Parents, PTA and educators work to ready Heritage Elementary by Aug. 11 – This summer while the children play, Heritage Elementary School parents and PTA members are lending helping hands to get the new school up to speed before the doors open for class on Aug. 11.
St. John Catholic School receives many compliments along with accreditation – St. John the Baptist Catholic School has been working on the accreditation process with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since spring of 1997 reflected principal Tommy Bridges. The school recently received 10 commendations. "We are very thankful to have gone through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation process. It will make our school even better and stronger for years to come," Bridges said.
Living classy in new Colonial Grand apartment complex – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new Colonial Grand apartment complex in Madison. The complex is located on Hughes Road.
