Pool groundbreaking set for Nov. 8

By By Thomas Tingle
Record Managing Editor
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. for Madison's new outdoor swimming pool and pool house at Dublin Park.
Madison City Engineer Jo Somers and Susan Klopfenstein, construction contracts manager, said the pool will be completed and ready for public use by next March.
Somers said the pool project and the pool house project were bid separately with Burleson Pools coming in as the lowest bidder for the pool and Lee Builders coming in as the lowest bidder for the pool house. Klopfenstein said the total budget for both projects is $595,089.
The L-shaped pool will be more than 4,858 square feet in size and a wading pool for children will also be built.
The pool house will contain a men and ladies dressing area and a covered snack machine area.
Madison resident Susan Frederick, owner of Frederick Design Studio, is the architect of the pool house project.
In other news from the engineering department, Somes said four road projects in Madison are in the final stages of design.
Plans are under way to add a turn lane north of U.S. Highway 72 on Hughes Road at the entrance to the Colonial Promenade shopping center. At the present time, there is not a turn lane for motorists exiting the shopping center to turn left onto Highway 72 east.
"We are in the process of acquiring the property needed to build the turn lane and that should be completed very soon," Somers said.
A turn lane will be built at the intersection of Shelton Road and Madison Blvd. Heavy traffic at the busy intersection has warranted the need for a turn lane to allow motorists to turn left onto Madison Blvd east.
An extension of Eastview Drive west to Wall-Triana Highway is planned.
"At the present time, funding has been budgeted in the project for engineering, right-of-way acquisition and some of the construction itself," Somers said. "With what funding has been budgeted now for the project, we will be able to extend Eastview Drive north of Bob Jones High School to allow a better traffic flow in and out of the high school during the morning and afternoon commute."
Somers said as funding to complete the Eastview Drive extension is acquired, the rest of the extension would be completed.
