Madison County receives highway safety grant
Madison County is among 10 North Alabama counties that will receive an $80,000 grant from Gov. Don Siegelman to improve highway safety.
Siegelman notified Sherry Bostick, chairman of the Substance Abuse Council of North Alabama, that the grant had been approved. The council will work with law enforcement agencies in the 10 counties and 68 municipalities in the region to ensure highway safety through a series of promotions and traffic enforcement programs. Educational programs will also be offered and aimed at reducing road rage, excessive speeding and other safety issues.
The other nine North Alabama counties receiving the grant are Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Marion, Morgan and Winston.
New charter plane lands at Huntsville International Airport
Huntsville International Airport has a based jet charter aircraft that will be able to provide on demand jet charter flight out of Signature Flight Support.
Piedmont Hawthorne is the operating company of the aircraft. An eight passenger, Beech Jet 400A will be the on-site aircraft stationed in Huntsville. Customers who require a large capacity plane can make arrangements in advance and Piedmont Hawthorne will send a larger aircraft for the group. The aircraft is currently available for bookings on a first come, first served basis.
