Stuart Dayton; Aug. 29, 2010

Petty Officer 3rd Class Stuart James Dayton of Madison passed away Aug. 29 at his home in Oak Harbor, Wash. He was 24.

Stuart was born in Baton Rouge, La., and was a resident of Madison County for 23 years. He was active duty with the U.S. Navy, stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Wash., and was assigned to VAQ 138. Stuart was a graduate of Bob Jones High School, class of 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Hackerott; his mother and stepfather, Janis and Richard Tangeman; his father and stepmother, Clay and Deana Dayton; one brother, Grant Dayton; two stepsisters, Kimberly McCarter and Shelby Tangeman; his maternal grandmother, Angela Simons; his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Ruby Dayton; and a host of uncles, aunts and other relatives.

The family received friends from noon until 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at Berryhill Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mark Ebersold officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made to the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society at www.nmcrs.org.
