Principal running marathon to benefit cancer research
The start of last year's St. Jude Memphis Marathon. Jah said cancer has touched the lives of many and she wants to do her part in becoming a hero to thousands of St. Jude kids.
Daphne Jah, principal at West Madison Elementary is asking for support in her fight against childhood cancer.
Jah is running in the half-marathon portion of the St. Jude Memphis Marathon, Dec. 4.
She has set a fundraising goal for the school and each grade level. Classes in grades K-3 have a goal of raising $100; grades 4-6 have a $150 goal and a $500 goal is set for grades K-6.
“If they reach this goal, I will participate in P.E. with that grade level,” Jah said. “Last year, I participated in four out of the seven P.E. times. It was a lot of fun.”
As a reward, Jah said the classes will receive extra recess time.
Jah ran in last year’s marathon in honor of a student at West Madison who had been diagnosed with leukemia.
“Dylan is still a patient at St. Jude and he and his family directly benefit from the contributions made to St. Jude,” she said. “Even though Dylan is no longer a part of our school, he is still a part of our hearts and a part of the Madison Community.”
Jah said donations can be made on her webpage at https://waystohelp.stjude.org/sjVPortal/public/displayUserPage.do?userId=314523&programId=401&eventId=108867 or at West Madison Elementary.
