Olney Underwood; Oct. 10, 2010

Olney Adeline Smith Underwood died Sunday, Oct. 10 after a long illness. She struggled and fought her diseases with great strength and grace.

She was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Amelia County, Va., to Cleo Creed Smith and Nannie Sue Farmer Smith, the sixth of 10 children. She and her family moved to Huntsville and later Madison, where she and her family have resided for over 50 years.

She worked hard all her life as a homemaker, later as a nurse and always served her family, church and community.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999, Willard D. Underwood; in 2008 she lost her dear and special friend, Mr. Charles Hand.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail U. Banks and family of Fayetteville, Tenn.; three sons, Daniel, Christopher and Tom and their families of this area; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, all whom were her earthly treasures.

Great thanks goes to Wiregrass Hospice of Huntsville and to her special friends, Vince and Tok Aye of Madison.
