William Garrett; Oct. 10, 2010

Rev. William Pate Garrett, 86, of Madison died Sunday, Oct. 10 in Madison.

He was born in Marshall County, Tenn., and was a son of the late Porter Wilhoite and Martha Jane Pate Garrett. The Rev. Garrett was a retired Cumberland Presbyterian minister, having retired after 50 years of ministry in Tennessee, Kentucky and Alabama. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Frances Tucker, Ruth Garrett, Elizabeth Garrett and Geraldine Garrett.

The Rev. Garrett is survived by his wife of 49 years, Colleen Baldwin Garrett of Madison; daughter, Martha Garrett and Jerry Fisher of Madison; sister, Lola Blain of Lewisburg, Tenn.; grandchildren, Billy Fisher and Cindy Fisher, both of Madison; two nieces; and two nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Chapel Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Hughes and the Rev. Dr. Pam Phillips-Burk officiating. Burial followed in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Bethel University, 325 Cherry Ave., McKenzie, TN 38201 or to Christ Presbyterian Church, 1580 Jeff Road, Huntsville, AL 35806.

Lawrence Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 203 South Horton Parkway, Chapel Hill, 931-364-2233, www.lawrencefuneral.net, is in charge of arrangements.
