City Council to elect new president

The Madison City Council will elect a new president at Monday’s meeting, as current President Bill Holtzclaw, the District 7 representative, will step down to assume his duties as the new state senator for District No. 2.

Holtzclaw, who has served on the council for the last two years, unseated incumbent Tom Butler, a 22-year veteran in Montgomery, during the Nov. 2 election.

In other actions, the council is expected to announce a new community gathering meeting called “Building in Madison.”
