Bone marrow drive draws community support
More than 400 people turned out to sign up for the bone marrow registry held for a Bob Jones student in need of a transplant.
RJ Jackson, a 16-year-old junior, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes. This is his third relapse in three years, and if he gets a donor before the end of December, it will be his second bone marrow transplant.
The surrounding communities, along with Be The Match Registry, the largest marrow registry in the world, held the bone morrow drive for Jackson, Saturday, Nov. 6 at Mount Carmel Elementary School in Huntsville.
“The Bone marrow drive went great,” said Keith Jackson. “The ladies from the bone marrow registry said it was the largest in the state of Alabama. I would just like to thank everybody in involved.”
Jackson said RJ is “doing well” and will undergo more chemotherapy starting Monday.
Out of the 400 that signed up, 341 of those people actually went into the registry. Jackson said the family would know in the next couple weeks if they have a match for his son.
