Randolph chooses the Tide

Bob Jones senior Levi Randolph signed a letter of intent to the University of Alabama at a commitment ceremony at the school, Friday, Nov. 12.

The honor student, who said his first word was “ball,” thanked his friends and family for their continuous support.

“It’s a good feeling to see that people support you,” Randolph said. “I chose Alabama because I believe it’s the best fit for me as far as basketball and academics. I believe the coaching staff can push me to the next level, make me better person and a better basketball player.”

Danny Petty, BJ’s varsity boys’ basketball coach said he has always seen potential in Randolph and he is proud of the player’s accomplishments.

“We knew he was something special when he was in the eight grade,” Petty said. “We didn’t know he was going to grow as tall as he did, but, he has really worked hard in the off-season and has gotten stronger and better every year.”

Petty said over time, Randolph’s skills have to not only made him a good offensive player, but a great defensive player and passer.

“He’s just a good all around player,” he said. “He continues to work hard. He’s been a good leader, so we’re looking forward to this year and looking forward to seeing him at Alabama.”

Randolph’s parents,  Levi and Mia, also had nothing but praises for their son.

“Basketball in our house is something we do for fun,” his father said. “I played basketball in high school and college, and I thought I was good, but having a son that has succeeded everything that I ever could imagine is a wonderful feeling.”

Randolph said even at an early age, his son has always shown enthusiasm in everything he has done.

Randolph’s mother was at a loss for words after he signed the commitment papers.

“There aren’t enough words to say how proud I am of him,” she said. “He’s always worked hard in everything he’s done. We’ve always encouraged him to try his best at whatever it is.”
