New high school naming process begins
Madison’s Board of Education isn’t wasting anytime in starting the process of naming the new high school.
The public can submit possible names for Madison’s second high school, which is expected to open in 2012, to any member on the board of education, to school Superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler or on the Madison City Schools website.
Once the nominations are received, Fowler will make a recommendation for an official name to board members, who will then accept or reject his submission.
“We’re still in the process of collecting names,” Fowler said. “At some point, there will be a group that will look at names and maybe a committee will help reduce the number of names down to a workable number.”
Bottom line, it’s the board’s decision, he added.
Fowler said the nomination process will be open through the first of the year.
“We’re hoping to have the name in the next couple months,” he said.
