City Council expected to fill District 7 vacancy during Monday’s meeting

The Madison City Council is expected to fill the District 7 vacancy after past-President Bill Holtzclaw resigned last month to take on his new endeavor as District 2 State Senator.

Gordon Brown, Amanda Holland, Ronica Ondocsin and Derrick Rains are the four finalists for the seat, and each candidate took their turn interviewing Dec. 15 during a special-called meeting.

The regularly scheduled Dec. 27 council meeting was moved up to Dec. 20 due to the holidays and to ensure the new council member would be sworn in within the 60-day window required by law.

By law, the new city council member must be sworn in within 60 days of the previous member stepping or else the governor has the authority to appoint the new member.
