Dental practice offers free care for one day

Dentists and staff are participating on a volunteer basis for the event, which will be Thursday, Dec. 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Complete Dental is giving people something to smile about.

The dental practice is offering free dental services, Thursday, Dec. 23, to those, ages 14 and above, who currently have no dental insurance.

Season of Smiles will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Complete Dental’s Huntsville location at 7540 Memorial Parkway, Southwest Suit L.

“Because the economy has gotten so bad and a lot of people have lost their insurance, we are trying to do something for the uninsured,” said Dr. Jason Selman.

More than 120 people are expected at the event.

The staff and dentists will be working on a volunteer basis, providing same-day procedures such as cleaning, filling and extractions.  Services are limited to two procedures per patient. More serious problems will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

“We’ve seen many of our patients lose their insurance and we want to help as many people as possible,” Selman said, “so this is an event that could utilize everyone together, utilize us being able to help them. We can’t give free healthcare everyday, so this is our day to do it.”

Mandy Selman, who handles public relations for Complete Dental, said Henry Schein Dental donated $600 of free products to help with a portion of the supply expenses. She said if the event is successful, they will look into expanding the free day to include all three locations in the future.
