Madison Academy girls advance to regionals

Senior Nyla Johnson led Madison Academy to a crushing 69-32 victory over Plainview in the sub-regionals Feb. 17.

“This means a lot,” said Coach Brian Privette. “We don’t take anything for granted.”

Privette said he’s especially proud of his girls’ preparation for this game because there was a lot of time between games.

“They had to go through the grind of three really tough practices,” Privette said. “I think they handled that really professionally and because of that we were really sharp.”

Johnson was the leading scorer for the Lady Mustangs, scoring 19 points. Amara Mayers scored 18 points and had five assists.

Alex Poole and Anna Graham tied with seven points for the Lady Bears.

“We have a lot of respect for Plainview,” Privette said. “We knew we had to come play for four quarters.”

Haley Loney had six assists for the Lady Mustangs and was taken to Huntsville Hospital after sustaining an injury.

Privette said he was unsure about her condition, but suspected it is a concussion.
