West Madison honors Dr. Seuss

Target provided the students with gift bags, medals and a Dr. Seuss book-style backdrop.

West Madison Elementary students actually got a taste of the infamous green eggs and ham.

As part of Read Across America, the schools’ third grade enrichment students read to all kindergarten and first graders, one on one, in the library, which was set up “café style,” complete with tablecloths, flowers in vases, and menus.

“The Dr. Seuss Café was something we experimented with last year and it was such a hit both years, I think we’re going to have to make it a tradition,” said Wendy Tibbs, enrichment teacher. “The kindergartners and first graders enjoy it, I think the third graders that do it get the most benefit from it.”

The menus were created by the third graders to describe the stories that Dr. Seuss wrote and include appetizers, main entrees and desserts. Each kindergartner and first grader came through the café with a chance to choose a book and have it read to him or her while snacking on goldfish.

Target provided the students with gift bags, medals and a Dr. Seuss book-style backdrop. Target also sent several workers out to help paint faces on the kids and have offered to provide financial support to the project for future years.
