Elementary students prepare for statewide tests

Students from third to sixth grade will take the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test (ARMT) on March 23 and March 24, and the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT), March 29 and March 30.

For the next two weeks, Madison City School students will be taking two state mandated tests.

Students from third to sixth grade will take the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test (ARMT) on March 23 and March 24, and the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT), March 29 and March 30.

Second through sixth graders will take the OLSAT on March 31.

Cindy Davis, school counselor at Mill Creek Elementary School advises parents to make sure their child is well-rested the day of the exams.

“Children who are tired are less able to pay attention in class and handle the demands of a test,” Davis said. “Make sure your child has a healthy breakfast each day.  Children who are hungry are less able to pay attention in class and handle the demands of a test.”

Davis also advises to make sure children are dressed comfortably each day.

“Let your child lay out clothes the night before that he or she likes to wear to avoid any delays or conflicts in the morning,” she said.

She said it’s important for student to be on time for school, before 7:40 a.m.

“As mandated by the state, no cell phones or other telecommunication or electronic devices can be brought into the classroom during testing,” she said. “If possible, have your child leave these items at home.”
