Bestselling author calls Madison home

Madison has an award winning author.

USA Today bestselling author, Lynn Raye Harris now calls Madison home after traveling as a military brat, and then as a military wife.

“I have been a writer since I was a kid,” Harris said. “As we moved around the world, I always wrote.”

Harris’ lifelong love of reading led her to her career.

“I loved reading books and I thought I could tell stories,” Harris said. “I used to write short stories and illustrate them.”

Although she has now published several romance novels, and received numerous awards Harris said she still feels very ordinary.

“My life is still normal,” she said. “I still live in the suburbs, and have a husband and pets. I don’t have a butler. I don’t get served breakfast in bed, or eat bonbons. I have a very normal life.”

She said her favorite part about reading stems from its comfort.

“I get to write in my pajamas,” Harris said. “I don’t have to get dressed for an office.”

She draws her inspiration for her novels from everyday people and situations.

“I write about people I don’t know, but the fact is it’s still life,” Harris said. “We all have problems and emotional issues to work through.”

Her advice is to aspiring writers is to “never give up.”

Harris released “The Devil’s Heart” on April 1, and will release “Behind the Palace Walls” on June 7, but wrote five books before she became a published author.

“Don’t give up,” Harris said. “If I had given up one book before I sold, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Harris said. “It’s okay to go after your dreams. It’s okay to believe you can and you should do it. You just can’t quit.”
