Nursing home needs community help for yard sale

Madison Manor nursing home is holding a yard sale Wednesday, April 20, in honor of National Nursing Home Week.

Madison Manor nursing home is having a yard sale and they need community help.

Every April, the home hosts a yard sale to raise money for National Nursing Home Week, May 8 through May 14. During that week, the nursing home hosts a variety of games and events for its residents.

“Whatever money we raise go toward buying games and prizes for residents for that week,” said Activities Coordinator Nancy Lawler.

Lawler said some people have already donated items to be sold off, but they are still in need of more.

The yard sale will be Wednesday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. until  2 p.m. at the nursing home, located at 3891 Sullivan Street.

Items for sale will include furniture, books, knick-knacks and pictures, but no clothing.

Lawler is asking Madison residents to donate to the cause. She said whatever money raised goes to the Madison Manor residents.

“It’s all benefiting our residents 100 percent,” Lawler said. “This is our preliminary kick-off for Nursing Home Week, so come out and support the residents and the nursing home industry.”

“The turnout was good last year. We even got a push mower out of the donation,” she said. “We’re hoping for the same turnout this year. The more we have, the more the residents will benefit.”

To donate items, bring them to Madison Manor no later than 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
