Schools to go back to normal this week

All three school systems in Madison County will reopen this week.

Madison County Schools and Huntsville City Schools will open Thursday, May 5, and Madison City Schools will open Wednesday, May 4.

Power has been restored in all schools, except for two county schools.

“We’ve had no physical damages to any of the schools,” said Geraldine Tibbs, spokesperson for Madison County Schools.

Tibbs said Buckhorn High School did see a broken glass, but nothing that would prevent an opening.

Rainbow Elementary School in Madison city was the last school to have power restored.

“Buses will run at their normal times, breakfast and lunch will be served at all schools,” Fowler said. “Our staff has worked hard to get all of our life safety systems, technology, air-conditioning, cooler and freezers, grocery deliveries and other essential items that contribute to a safe environment conducive to learning ready for our students.”

Fowler said not only did Madison City Schools survive the storm, but so did the new construction site for the new high school.

“I have spoken to the senior construction manager, who reports that all the walls stood with no problems,” he said.

Advanced Placement exams for the County Schools, excluding Sparkman High School, will resume Thursday. Sparkman will resume exams Friday, May 6.

Bob Jones High School students will take their AP exams starting Wednesday, and will continue until Friday, May 13.
