After storms, city returns to normalcy
The city of Madison wasn’t as affected as badly as other areas in Madison County, and that, said Mayor Paul Finley, is a blessing.
“Relatively speaking, Madison received minimal damage compared with everyone else in the area and state,” Finley said.
Most of the damage the city received was on the northern side of town.
“I’m very proud of our city with our clean up efforts. Our public works team was quickly out helping those affected areas.”
Not only did the city help its own, but also offered police, fire and rescue assistance to parts of Madison and Limestone Counties.
The Public Works Department initiated a spoiled food collection point at the Madison City Schools stadium for two days earlier in the week, collecting a 76 tons of food spoiled during the power outage.
Dublin Park off Old Madison Pike has been established as a Red Cross donation center, where food and other items can be dropped off to go toward helping those displaced by the tornadoes.
“I am proud as a mayor, along with the city council, about how the team has responded for citizens,” Finley said. “And how our citizens have responded throughout the community.”
