Family of the Year to be crowned next week

Three families have been selected as finalists for the city’s Family of the Year.

Committee member John Butterfield said the winner would be announced at the next city council meeting, to be held Monday, June 13.

The winning family was originally scheduled to be announced at a May council meeting, but had to be rescheduled because of delays area tornadoes, had to be postponed.

There were 26 nominations this year. Nominations are made through the city’s website during the first quarter of each year.   Each nominated family receives a questionnaire, which allows them to tell the committee about their activities during the past year (community, school, volunteer, church, etc.).

Half of the committee will review the questionnaires and narrow it down to the finalist families.  The finalists are then brought in for a face-to-face interview with the rest of the committee.
