Krugh performs magic at the library

Waymon Krugh hosted a magic show for more than 100 children at the Madison Public Library Tuesday night.

Chaotic is not a word typically used to describe a library, but it fit when magician Waymon Krugh hosted a magic show for more than 100 children at the Madison Public Library Tuesday night.

Krugh has been doing magic shows for more than 60 years. This is his fifth year coming to perform magic shows at the library in Madison. His wife travels with him as his magician’s assistant.

“The kids loved him,” said mother of two, Rebecca Provencil. “It was a lot of fun and definitely worth it to see him.”

Krugh does a variety of tricks including scarf tricks, tricks with levitating balls and even using a pet rat.

“The highlight today was when he said he would pass a big giant needle through a balloon and he wasn’t going to pop it,” said Youth Services Librarian Mandy Pinyan. “He poked and popped the first balloon. Then, he built the suspense so much with the kids asking for another chance. He actually passed the needle through the second balloon. I don’t know how he did it.”

The children at the library could not stop talking about the magic tricks. One little girl offered to teach others how to do a magic trick with a paper ball.

“Mr. Krugh inspires magicians in the making,” said Pinyan. “We have a lot of magic trick books here at the library so if they like what they see, they can come here to the children’s section and find books on magic tricks and practical jokes. The events we do all tie into literacy, but they’re also free.”

Every week the Madison Library holds special programs for children and teens. The library will be hosting Sci-Quest’s World Fossil Collecting on Thursday.

Krugh’s Magic Show will be shown at other libraries through June. For dates and locations or more information, visit Hmcpl.org.
