Tournament to raise money for charity

Kickin' for Kitty, a charity soccer tournament, will be held at Palmer Park July 30.

This tournament isn’t just for kicks—it’s to raise money for charity.

Kickin’ for Kitty, a 3v3 charity soccer tournament, will take place at Palmer Park June 30.

Victor Callazo Perez, the tournament’s director, said this will be the second year the tournament has taken place. The last one was held two years ago.

Callazo Perez started the tournament to help out a young girl he coached soccer for. She was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

This year it will be a youth tournament, so anyone up to the age of 19 can participate.

“We’re taking registrations all this week,” Callazo Perez said.

According to the tournament’s website, registration fees are $100 for U-8 and $125 for U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-19. There will be a $10 late fee for applications, as it is past July 1.

The tournament will be raising money for Kitty’s Miracle Fund.

“We started that foundation to raise money for that family, and we extended it to help out a few other local families that are going through the same disease,” Callazo Perez explained. “We help them out with costs that aren’t covered by insurance or some other expenses.”

Kittysmiraclefund.org has a special tab where people can make donations through PayPal or iGive. There is also an address provided that donations can be sent to.

Callazo Perez said donations will be accepted at the tournament, too.
