Holley announces Congressional bid

Charlie L. ‘CL’ Holley has announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Holley is running in Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District, which includes Colbert, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone and Madison counties and part of Morgan County.

His campaign slogan is “Serving & Caring for All.”

Holley cited several needs for the Fifth District. He plans to preserve and build industries, like Redstone Arsenal, the Tennessee Valley Authority, Marshall Space Flight Center and United Launch Alliance. “In the last three years, we’ve had major losses. It’s imperative (for) the representative” to succeed in sustaining the business climate, he said.

“That representative must conduct himself/herself with the utmost wisdom, respect toward others and … work with those of opposite parties,” Holley said about keeping constituents first and party second.

Holley will “have all people truly represented. A number of people throughout the district feel disenfranchised from the representation process.” He believes the representative should visit all communities instead of scheduling town hall meetings in a few.

“We’re extremely blessed to have BRAC and all components that accompany this colossal project,” Holley said. “Everyone from homebuilders and sellers to additional malls and other business needs have stepped up to the plate (with) a wide variety of choices and a welcome that only Alabama can offer.”

Revision of the current immigration law is necessary, he said. “Illegal entry into the state is wrong. However, legislation should be written in a way that addresses ‘the problem’ of illegal immigration as opposed to addressing ‘the people’ that are perceived to be the problem.”

Holley said current immigration legislation “has struck a tremendous blow on the state in … resources from other institutions, agencies and businesses … and image of the state.”

“I’m not moved by fame, fortune, popularity, party empowerment or materialism,” Holley said. “The single thing that motivates me is a future meeting that I must attend. I must see my Creator face-to-face and give an account for what I’ve done and said toward others.”

He and wife Cassandra have been married for 23 years. Their daughter Kiana graduated from Bob Jones High School and attends the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Holley earned a bachelor’s degree in administrative science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a master’s degree in biblical counseling from Heritage Bible College. His book, “An Hour of Inspiration,” memorializes his teenage son Torrell who died in 2001 from cardiac arrest while playing basketball at Liberty Middle School.

Republican Mo Brooks currently represents Alabama’s Fifth District.
