Bob Jones girls keep pace with area win

BY LINDAY VAUGHT

The Bob Jones Lady Patriots are on a roll that they hope extends all the way to Birmingham and the state tournament. Tuesday night the Austin Black Bears found out just how dominating Bob Jones can be as the Patriots won over Austin for the third time this season, this time the final was 59-36.

Jasmine Jones led the scoring for Bob Jones with 23 points and she also pulled down 12 rebounds. China Leary, Tierra Jones and Lindsay Jennings each had 10 points.

Bob Jones jumped to a 24-6 first quarter lead and led 41-13 at halftime.

Some of the toughest decisions for Bob Jones girls’ basketball coach Tim Miller is how much to play his starters and keep them sharp when they get big leads.

“Tonight they played a lot because Austin made some good runs at us,” Miller said of his starting five. “If we are running a style trying to get it up and down the floor I try to play starters four or five minutes and get her out for a blow. In the second half if the game is on the line I want my best players in there. Right now our starters are laying well. vIf they turn it own they can be a really good basketball team.”

Bob Jones is now 2-0 in Area 15 play. The ladies next area game is Jan. 13 against Decatur.
