Major roadways clear in Madison County

According to Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning, who has seen most of the damage, 12 to 15 homes are destroyed in northwestern Madison County with another 20 homes inhabitable.

All major roadways are clear in Madison County.

Most of the damage stretches from the Harvest, Monrovia area through Meridianville and into New Market, which occurred from the two tornadoes that tracked through Madison County around 10 a.m. this morning.

According to Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning, who has seen most of the damage, 12 to 15 homes are destroyed in northwestern Madison County with another 20 homes inhabitable.

Citizens should stay out of those damaged areas on Yarbrough Road from Wall Triana to old Railroad Bed Road and on Burwell from Jeff to Yarbrough, according to District 4 Commissioner Dale Strong.

“We are working to help these people hit yet again by tornadoes.”

Four Madison County schools received minor damage with no injuries to students or faculty. Those schools all in northern Madison County are Sparkman High, Meridianville Middle, Lyn Fanning Elementary and Buckhorn High.

According to Madison County District One Commissioner Roger Jones, two or three homes near Buckhorn no longer have roofs, in Meridianville near Jacob’s Landing, several houses open to the elements, roof off Posey’s Restaurant. There is other damage along Darwin Road, Walker Lane, Hubbert to Davis. But Jones says, “All roads are clear. District One crews are now assisting Huntsville Utilities with clearing trees from power lines.”

Chairman Mike Gillespie has issued an emergency proclamation. He has spoken with Governor Robert Bentley who has offered any and all help or assistance.

Citizens must remain away from these affected areas and are advised to stay weather alert.
