Restaurant employee accused of stealing credit card information
A Madison man has been arrested for credit card fraud.
Nicholas Wright, 27, is accused of stealing credit card information from customers at the restaurant where he works. Police have not revealed the identity of the restaurant.
Wright has been charged with four counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.
Police said victims discovered purchases on their credit card statements for credit card branded gift cards. The investigation revealed that Wright was capturing victim’s credit card numbers with a card reader attached to his cell phone while handling the card as an employee at a local restaurant.
Wright was booked into the Madison County jail on $10,000 bond.
Police urge everyone to remain diligent in monitoring their credit card account activity. Most credit card companies and banks will allow you to do this online for free. Upon finding an unauthorized transaction, consumers should first notify the credit card company or bank who issued the card. Also contact police as soon as possible to file a report in the city in which the transaction took place.
