Bob Jones Drumline ‘hot-blooded’ for Foreigner concert

The audience will be ‘hot-blooded’ when the Bob Jones Drumline plays warm-up for the Foreigner concert on May 10.

The concert in Von Braun Center Propst Arena is a fundraiser for Madison Hospital (and a percentage to the drumline). The drumline rolls off at approximately 8 p.m. with Foreigner taking the stage at 8:30 p.m.

The drumline has four sections:

* Snares — Keith Dunlap, Mitchell Corder, Sienna Ryan, Aaron Barr and Brandon Morris.

* Basses — Jonathan Philip, Barrett Elder, Sam Thompson, Sam Benefield, Matthew Allen and Casey McConnell.

* Tenors — Nick Werline, Stuart Russler, James Eaton and Elise Stone.

* Cymbals — Cody Stinson, Sam Chase, Jacob West, Connor Duke and Marty Fore.

Keith Anderson is percussion instructor and music arranger for the drumline and has been named band director at James Clemens High School.

In 2008, the Bob Jones drumline was warm-up for Keith Urban in Birmingham, drumline publicist Tonia Beavers said.

In this year’s competitions, the Bob Jones Drumline earned Best in Class and Grand Champions at the Mid-South Marching Band Festival in Gadsden and Southern Hospitality Invitational in Hartselle. At Field Show USA in Washington, D.C., they rated Best Drumline and Grand Champions.

In indoor drumline competition, the Bob Jones squad was a finalist at the Mid-South Percussion Championships in Bowling Green, Ky.

Their major fundraiser, Dinner with the Drumline will be held April 3 in the Bob Jones cafeteria. Seating times will be 6 to 6:30 p.m. or 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Winners in the silent auction will be announced at 7:15 p.m. in the gym, followed by a drumline performance at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12. Smokey’s Barbecue is catering pulled pork or chicken, baked beans, potato salad, slaw, bread and dessert. All proceeds will help with travel expenses to the Winter Guard International (WGI) world championships in Dayton, Ohio on April 19-21.
