Bob Jones easily handles Florence in Soccer, Huntsville next

Madison-  Sophomore Hannah Snoddy has had a week to remember for the Bob Jones girls soccer team. Against Buckhorn on Monday night she scored five goals as Bob Jones scored an easy 10-0 win, the second time this season Bob Jones beat Buckhorn by that score.

Tuesday night at Madison City Schools Stadium it was much the same story as Bob Jones beat Florence 9-0. Snoddy didn’t get a goal but she got plenty of support from her teammates. Four girls tallied two goals each against Florence:  Kelly Cashon, Lena Williams, Darby Rasch, and Jaime Leeds.

The Lady Patriots bolted to a 5-0 halftime lead and substituted freely in the second half. Senior midfielder Sammy Manzo took the night off to rest and get ready for the Patriots huge game on Thursday night against Huntsville, the top-ranked girls soccer team in the state of Alabama.

With a 7-2 section record the Lady Patriots face their biggest game of the year on Thursday night at Huntsville. Huntsville sits on top in Section 8 but Bob Jones is playing extremely well going into the big matchup.  The Lady Patriots have beaten their last 3 opponents by 10-0, 10-0, and 9-0 scores. A win over Huntsville would put Bob Jones into one of the top two places in Section 8 and host a playoff game.

“We are very excited about where we are as a team and going in and playing Huntsville,” said Manzo, a senior who signed with Birmingham Southern.  “We are going to have to connect passes and work hard for each other. We need to place the ball better when we shoot to score.”

Bob Jones missed several scoring opportunities on open kicks that would have ended the Florence game early. Soccer coach Patrick Jacklin said that it will take the Patriots best game of the year to keep pace with Huntsville.

Huntsville has developed into Bob Jones biggest rival in girl’s soccer.

“They have a lot of skill and they are fast,” Manzo said of Huntsville. “They work hard and that is what we are going to have to do as well to be successful against them.”

The game at Huntsville will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night.
