Sentencing for woman convicted in mother’s murder set for next month

A Madison woman convicted of murder for fatally stabbing her mother will go before a judge in May for sentencing.

Kimberly McLaughlin

A Madison County judge set May 17th for Kimberly McLaughlin’s sentencing.

McLaughlin was found guilty of murder on April 6th but the jury acquitted her on an arson charge.

McLaughlin stabbed her mother Shirley Robuck 200 times, severed her head, and set the body on fire.

“It is a tragic case,” said Defense Attorney Brian Clark after McLaughlin’s guilty verdict on April 6.

Prosecutors hope the upcoming sentencing gives the family some sense of justice.

“Maybe they can have some closure,” said Prosecutor Melissa Heron.

Judge Ruth Ann Hall will sentence McLaughlin on May 17 at 2 p.m.

She remains in the Madison County jail with a bond set at $400,000.
