Alabama Patriots are USSSA World Series champs

The Alabama Patriots, based out of Madison, won the 10U United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) World Series in Orange Beach on July 5-8.

World Series champs, the Madison Patriots are, back from left, Logan Morris, Avery Seaton, Dylan Ray, Camden Hill and Harrison Steward, and, front from left, Andy Hufford, Wade Passler, Colin Baeder, Caden Rose and Slate Alford.

The team tallied a 5-0 showing and scored 40 runs and allowed 13. The Patriots finished the season 55-14. Their World Series win was directly on the heals of earning a state championship the previous weekend on June 30.

The Alabama Patriots are a 10-year and younger team.

“In the World Series, the championship game was decided on a no-out, bases-loaded grand slam home run delivered by Dylan Ray in the sixth inning, which was one of multiple hits in the tournament,” coach and team parent Jamie Hill said.

The Patriots pounded out 16 hits in the game, winning 12-9 versus the Hoover Bucs.

In setting the baseball stage for the sixth inning, Colin Baeder had three hits. Andy Hufford had two hits, including a double. Caden Rose closed out the game on the mound, had two hits and turned a double play, Hill said.

Camden Hill had a three-run homerun in the tournament and a two-run single in the final game. Harrison Steward collected multiple hits in all five games, including a home run. Logan Morris, pitched a six-inning shutout, striking out 10 hitters in the semi-final game where he also collected two hits.

“Avery Seaton made a game-changing catch in the outfield of the championship game, where he also collected a hit,” Hill said. “Wade Passler made two big scoop moves at first base that saved the game.” Slate Alford had a huge line drive double in the sixth inning with the Patriots trailing 9-8 — after leading 8-0 just two innings earlier.

Coaches for the Alabama Patriots are Kevin Rose, Jamie Hill and Patrick Passler.
