Pure Barre opens on Main Street

Pure Barre owner Meredith Davis.

Meredith Davis is enthusiastic about her fitness studio, Pure Barre, which has opened in downtown Madison.

Pure Barre’s workout is one of the fastest, most effective and safest “ways to change your body and the most athletic, effective and motivating of the barre techniques,” Davis said. Motivating music drives the workout of isometric movements.

‘Barre’ refers to the wall-mounted bar in a dance studio.

The workout is safe, without fast or large movements “that could have a negative impact on your joints,” Davis said. “We keep our classes small — no more than 25 people per class so the teacher can give proper attention to each student.”

The class is intense “but, if you can hold on to the barre, you can do it. All fitness levels are welcome and no dance experience is required,” Davis said.

Davis has worked with Pure Barre since January 2010, first as an instructor in Birmingham and then in February 2011 as studio owner in Huntsville. “I have opened up my second studio in Madison, and my third studio is opening later this year in my hometown of Hudson, Ohio,” she said.

Pure Barre is the largest, most established barre franchise with more than 100 locations in 32 states. “We think exercise should be fun,” Davis said. “Pure Barre is more than a workout … it’s a community of like-minded women across the country.”

The Madison fitness studio’s contemporary, clean lines have one wall of floor-to-ceiling mirrors, the barre extending the room’s length, bright lighting and a chain-mail chandelier with crystalline appearance.

“We sell a variety of great quality workout apparel in brands like Ululemon Athletica, Splits 59, Karma, Pure Barre and Lucy,” Davis said. “Also, we sell accessories including Emi-Jay Hair Ties and Lily & Laura Bracelets. “Another must-have is the pure barre grippie sock.”

Studio hours are weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and then re-opening from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Pure Barre also is open on Saturday from 8:15 to 10:45 a.m. and Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Davis may add classes.

Pure Barre’s address is 14 Main St., Suite A. For more information, call 256-684-5549, send email to Madison@purebarre.com or visit purebarre.com.
