‘Halloween on Main’ creeps into downtown on Wednesday
Goblins, ghouls, along with gentle ghosts, will converge on downtown for the first annual “Halloween on Main” from 5 to 8 p.m.
City of Madison, Madison Chamber of Commerce and local businesses are sponsoring the event.
“Also, our new and existing businesses can express the hometown feel that Madison has to offer,” Milam said.
A costume parade with no age limit will march from Wise Street to Sullivan Street and back. Children are welcome to trick-or-treat and visit businesses who will offer games, like bag toss, ring toss and fishing pond.
“This event was held several years ago. From what I’m hearing, many are glad to see that it’s coming back,” she said. “We, as the city, are excited to be one of the sponsors.”
At Studio 106 in Clay House, Dana Burrow (the Spider Witch), Sylina Cole (1920s Flapper) and Denise Swaney (Gorgeous Ghoul) will oversee a small, gruesome graveyard and hand out ghost pops, along with samples of hair products.
“We’ll have strobe lights and fog machines going,” Burrows said.
“The Madison Record” newspaper, “Madison Living” magazine and the chamber will share a booth to stir up Halloween shenanigans. “We’ll hand out candy to trick-or-treaters and have a photo booth. Children’s photographs will be published in the newspaper and on Facebook/Madison Record,” publisher Erica Slone said.
On Halloween Day, Madison Station Antiques hosts children in day cares from Madison United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Madison. “We give treats all around,” store manager Sharon Dinkel said.
For more adventurous trick-or-treaters, Bandito Burrito always throws a good party.
At 3 p.m. on Oct. 31, Main Street will close from Wise Street to Sullivan Street. Parking will be available at the public lot at Martin and Garner streets.
