Students flock to Madison elementary’s Teacher Treat Trail

To gear up for the true trick-or-treating night, students at Madison Elementary School gobbled some early goodies at the annual Teacher Treat Trail.

“The treat trail is an event designed to bring our families together, including friends who may not attend Madison elementary,” PTA president Melanie Davis said. Most teachers participated, and some of the school staff dressed in costume for the event. “The kids loved that!”

School families contribute bags of candy. During the treat trail, teachers sit outside their classrooms or with teachers for their grade and greet the children with candy. After students and families trick or treat through the school, everyone goes to the gym for Papa John’s pizza, popcorn, sodas and giant dill pickles.

Terri Michal of Zoot Suit Riot kept the music pumping. Michal also serves as deejay for Field Day.

Debbie Johnson portrayed a bottle of ketchup and her husband was mustard.

“Our assistant principal Dr. Georgina Nelson surprised everyone and dressed up as a clown,” Davis said.

This year, the Madison elementary students outdid themselves with amazing costumes. Students dressed as peacocks, zombies, pop stars, hippies, Frankenstein’s bride, vampires and fairies.

Sixth-grader Will Davis liked seeing the different costumes. “They were really good,” Davis said.

“I enjoyed dressing up and dancing with my friends,” fifth-grader Alex Davis said. “My favorite costume was mine, because I made it with my Mom.”

“The event would not have been possible without the support of our wonderful parent volunteers,” Davis said. About 20 volunteers served pizza, drinks and pickles, along with Kristin Ott as “popcorn lady.”

Madison elementary’s PTA sponsors the event. PTA secretary Paula Nichols was chairman. “Paula did an amazing job in planning, decorating and directing us to make the event a huge success,” Davis said.
