One of Madison’s greatest assets is no longer here to keep Madison financially sound.

Madison Finance Director Lillie Causey, 58, died Monday night at Huntsville Hospital. She suffered a brain aneurism Friday afternoon at work.

“Lillie was one of my very best friends and spiritual role model,” said Human Resources Director Terri Towry. “She will be tremendously missed.”

Royal Funeral Home will announce arrangements at royalfh.com.

“A city revolves around a budget,” said Madison Mayor Paul Finley. “The anchor for our budget for 30 years was Lillie Causey.

Finley said Lillie helped guide Madison from a town of 6,000 people in the early 1980s to a growing town of over 45,000 today. “We simply could not have managed this explosive growth without her dedication and guidance,” Finley said.

On top of Lillie’s “unmatched work ethic,” she was a true friend to Madison. “We will miss her dearly,” Finley said. “Not just because of her knowledge and work ethic but because she simply was one of the most honest and genuine people any of us have ever had the pleasure of working with.”

Executive Aide to the Mayor Nansi Clark helped organize efforts to support Lillie’s family. “The city department heads, City Council, the finance department, other employees, connections and friends have all been super wonderful and supportive of Lillie’s family.”

Clark said she believes Causey would encourage Madison with Hebrews 10:35. “Do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly rewarded, you need to persevere, for when you’ve done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised.”

Many in Madison will continue to miss the kind and steadfast Causey.

“She was a very diligent hard worker and wonderful godly woman,” Clark said. “I loved her and respected her values and life so much. She will be extremely missed!”
