Latest library class can fulfill resolution for creativity

For anyone resolving for more creativity in the New Year, Madison Public Library has an outlet for design and spontaneity.

The library will host a class to paint family initials on Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon. The class is free to participants, who do not need painting skills.

“Each person will have an 11-by-14 inch canvas to paint, and all supplies will be provided,” adult services librarian Rachel Hooper said. Snacks and coffee will be served.

“We will paint a design on the background with acrylic paint, and then we can paint our initials,” Hooper said. Another option is to use mismatched buttons in different colors to create the initial letter.

Hooper will provide an example for class participants to consider and possibly use as a go-by image. “However, participants are welcome to be creative and come up with their own designs,” she said.

“The library is excited to offer crafting classes. It is indicative of the role public libraries fill as gathering spots for their local communities,” Madison branch manager Sarah Sledge said.

“The completed paintings can be used as decoration in your home,” Hooper said.

The class is open to anyone who is at least 18 years old. “Space is limited so reserve your spot soon,” Hooper said. To register, visit hmcpl.org/adultcrafts.

In other news, the Friends of the Madison Library will meet on Jan. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. Similar groups of ‘friends’ function at branches of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. “‘Friends’ go that extra mile in support of all the great programs and services the library offers,” Madison president Stephenie Walker said.

On Jan. 14, children with their caregivers will make dog balloons in the “Family Make & Take Crafts” session. The hour-long session will start at 3 p.m.

Madison Public Library’s address is 130 Plaza Blvd. For more information, call Hooper at 256-461-0046 or email rhooper@hmcpl.org.
