City organizing new board for construction issues

The City of Madison is looking for qualified applicants to serve on a new board, Construction Board of Appeals.

This board will give an administrative review to any person with a grievance against any order or ruling in Chapter 6 of the “Municipal Code of Ordinances.” The board does not have authority to waive requirements or sections of the city’s building code.

The board’s seven members will serve five-year terms.

The city is requiring candidates to meet several criteria. The applicant must qualify one of these professional requirements:

* Registered design professional who is a registered architect or has experience in structural engineering or architectural design, mechanical and plumbing work, electrical engineering or fire protection engineering.

* Builder or superintendent of building construction with 10 years experience minimum, with five years in charge of work.

* Mechanical and plumbing contractor with 10 years experience minimum, with five years in charge of work.

* Electrical contractor with 10 years experience minimum, with five years in charge of work.

* Fire protection contractor with 10 years experience minimum, with five years in charge of work.

Individuals interested in an appointment with the Madison City Council must submit an application, available from the City Clerk-Treasurer’s office, 100 Hughes Road or madisonal.gov/DocumentCenter/View/514. The city will keep applications on file for one year after submission.

The board will have regular meeting dates in City Hall, 100 Hughes Road. The chairperson also can call a meeting within 20 days after an individual files an appeal.
