MADISON – Due to delinquent payments, Bandito Burrito-Madison is on the verge of being closed.
At the April 8 Madison City Council meeting, a public hearing was called on the matter of revoking or refusing to renew the business license of Bandito Burrito-Madison.
Revenue Director Cameron Grounds said that Bandito Burrito was notified multiple times to pay delinquent sales and liquor taxes in the total amount of $49,809.92 from 2009 to 2013.
“They were given 30 days notice and failed to pay,” Grounds said. “They were warned.”
The council agreed to continue the public hearing into May though Councilwoman Ronica Ondocisn worried it might “fall by the waste side.”
Bandito Burrito owner Larry Anderson declined to elaborate and only said, “the issues should be resolved in the next two meetings.”
Council president Tommy Overcash said that continuing the public hearing would help resolve some issues that were noticed just hours before the meeting.
“I think continuing this public hearing will help us look through the details, some of which we got as of today,” Overcash said.
A payment of $15,000 was made however the council will determine what actions to take if the remaining payments are not made or some arrangements are made by the May 13 council meeting.
Other topics that were discussed at the meeting included the arrangements being made to remove damaged gaslights on Front St. in historic downtown Madison. Nine lights on Church St. will have the gas cut off and residents will have the option to pick up the tab that runs just over $500 a year.
Councilman Tim Holcombe also gave a brief update on the education board applicants.
“Two applicants so far,” he said. “I hope we get more because last year we had ten.”
