Carnival labeled a complete success

MADISON — Despite sacrificing a day due to rain, the Madison Police Foundation carnival was otherwise successful.
Officer Patrick Hamilton said though a donation total had not been calculated, he could safely say the proceeds from the annual carnival were on pace to match last years.
“We got rained out on Friday which was a bummer,” Hamilton said. “But we really picked it up on Saturday around 6:00 p.m. and the line grew larger. I’d say our busiest time was between 5 p.m. to close.”
Though the event was sponsored by the Madison Police Department, safety is always a concern with large crowds. Hamilton said thanks to the efforts of the officers on duty, no crimes were reported.
“We had a number of officers who walked throughout the carnival,” he said. “Overall, we just wanted to make sure everyone felt safe and that everything went smoothly. It all went as we expected. We also had officers on the road so if there was ever a problem, they could respond quickly.”
Hamilton said the partnership with Kissell Entertainment worked out great in making sure all rides were safe and the cleanup afterwards.
“Everything worked out just great,” he said. “We had no security problems, concessions worked out fine and it was overall an awesome carnival.”
Donations to the foundation can be made year-round. For more information, call Hamilton at (256) 772-5689 or Sharron Monk at (256) 772-5675.
