MADISON- After a day of pool play in the North Alabama Elite 7 on 7, Bob Jones 1 and Madison Academy are the only two undefeated teams as play resumes at 9 A.M.

Both teams racked up five victories on Wednesday. All 12 teams face elimination today as the double-elimination tournament starts at the fields north of Eastview Drive. The championship game should be about 3 P.M. at the turf field behind the school.

“Everything ran smoothly and we had some great weather and some great games for the first day,” said Bob Jones head football coach Kevin Rose after the final games wrapped up on Wednesday. Rose is overseeing the action and leaving the coaching of the Bob Jones teams to his assistants.

The Bob Jones 1 team finished the day with a 33-17 win over Buckhorn. Assistant coaches Chris Cagle and Lance Clark are coaching the Bob Jones 1 team.

“It’s a good opportunity to compete in a great environment and get out of the weight room for the kids. They really enjoy it,” Rose said.

Quarterback Tyler Whalen threw 4 touchdown passes against Buckhorn to lead Bob Jones 1 team.

Sparkman finished 3-2 on the day behind some impressive quarterbacking by first–year starter Mason Edwards. Edwards threw four touchdown passes and led the Senators to a win over the Bob Jones 2 team.

Defending champion Madison Academy benefited from a healthy Kerrion Johnson who missed the tournament last year with an injury.

Johnson, one of the states top recruits, will attend an underclassmen camp in Dallas later this month and in July is invited to and will participate in a football camp at Alabama. Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide are considered a favorite to sign Johnson who is not expected to commit until after his junior season.
