HUNTSVILLE – A Madison man was arrested Wednesday in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Huntsville July 12 of last year.
Trinidad Alonso, 27, of Madison was arrested on the felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Huntsville Police Department. The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force made the arrest in conjunction with the HPD.
Dr. Harry Hobbs, HPD communications relations officer, said Brad LeLand Hill, 25, of Huntsville was struck by a vehicle July 12, 2012 on Highway 20 near Slaughter Road. Hill was transported to Huntsville Hospital following the collision, and he later died from his injuries. The offender fled the scene in his vehicle – which Hobbs identified as a BMW – but investigators were able to identify debris and other evidence left on the roadway that led to identifying the suspect.
A warrant for leaving the scene of an accident was obtained for Alonso and, after months of investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Alonso at a restaurant in Lincoln, Ala. Wednesday.
Alonso is being held in the Huntsville/Madison County Jail without bond.
HPD said the arrest is a direct result of the “outstanding investigatory work” performed by the Traffic Homicide Unit, the Madison County District Attorney and the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force.
“Our department is very glad to have solved this,” Hobbs said. “Thanks to the hard work of the investigators, we were able to apprehend and arrest the suspect and bring this to justice.”
