Liberty volleyball teams win tourneys

MADISON – Volleyball teams at Liberty Middle School grabbed bragging rights at two tournaments in recent weeks.

“The seventh-grade Lady Lions won the Huntsville Panther Smash Tournament at Huntsville High School on Aug. 31,” coach Jodi Jones said.

The Liberty eighth-graders won the Metro-Opener Tournament hosted by Bumpus Middle School in Hoover on Sept. 7.

The seventh-grade players and their jersey numbers are Kiara Robinson, 26; Laura Grace Jones, 13; Holly Sharp, 15; Jamie Benesh, 22; Sydney Bates, 11; Brooke Boseck, 4; Sarah Cook, 18; Madalyn McKinney, 23; Hannah Einhorn, 10; Abbigail Woodruff, 7; Melisa Shafer, 9; and Lila Young, 8.

Liberty’s eighth-grade volleyball players are Bronte Ray, 5; Kenzie Beckett, 24; Brittan Davis, 14; Katie Sharp, 17; Avery Lee, 2; Alexandra Leudesdorf, 20; Michelle Schikner, 16; Joanna Russell, 21; Sydney Miller, 25; and Kyndal Oden, 12.

The Lady Lions’ upcoming schedule pits them against Discovery Middle School on Sept. 16. On Sept. 17, the Lions will travel to Monrovia Middle School and then to Meridianville Middle School on Sept. 19.

Liberty will enter the Hartselle Seventh-Grade Tournament on Sept. 21. Liberty will meet on Buckhorn’s turf on Sept. 23.

To play its Madison County rival, the Liberty volleyball team will go to Sparkman Middle School on Sept. 26. The next day, both the seventh- and eighth-grade Liberty teams will enter the Madison Academy Tournament. To wrap its September schedule, Liberty will host Monrovia on Sept. 30.

Games start at 4 p.m.
