MADISON – “Madison Rewound,” a popular Facebook page, is entertaining longtime residents and newcomers with images from the 1960s-1980s.

Ty Roberts, 43, created and administrates Madison Rewound, with help from Don Bates.

Roberts graduated from Bob Jones High School in 1987 with 122 classmates. “I love Madison. It will always be my hometown,” Roberts said. He now lives in eastern Limestone County but has relatives in Madison. “I have many fond memories of my family’s years there.”

Roberts created Madison Rewound “so folks could share stories and pictures of Madison’s past. I appreciate local history that I can relate to but couldn’t find much on the Internet about Madison’s past.”

People are posting photos of ‘big-hair’ prom couples from the 1980s, parties, businesses and school groups. “The members are where the bulk of the material comes from, but we need more,” Roberts said.

“Our minds are very complex hard drives. But, if we don’t keep them refreshed through the years with past memories, those memories will be gone forever … unlike today where everything we do, see or say is preserved on the Internet and computer hard drives,” Roberts said.

Roberts hopes people “will dust off those old shoeboxes full of pictures and post them to keep the memories of Madison alive.”

Roberts grew up on Walton Drive, where a CVS Pharmacy now stands. He’s pleased that Madison resolved its water shortage from years ago. “There are more places to shop and eat, just less places to hunt and fish, which is bad,” he said.

“I didn’t think Madison could support its own school system when they left Madison County Schools,” Roberts said,” but they have excellent schools now. I was definitely wrong about that.”

Roberts works as a senior systems analyst at Redstone Arsenal. His wife Christie Sims Roberts, another Madison native, works for Limestone County Schools. Their daughters Alyson, 16, Bailey, 16, and Abby, 12, attend East Limestone School.
