Father arrested on charge of criminally negligent homicide

Madison Police arrested Kristopher Joseph Speigner Monday in connection to the 2012 death of his 19-month-old daughter.

On Sept. 30, 2012, Madison police officers and Madison fire paramedics responded to the call of an unresponsive child at Colonial Lake Apartments in Madison, a press release issued by the police department today said.

The child’s father, Kristopher Joseph Speigner, and stepmother, Joy Lynn Speigner, advised that the child had ingested a toxic substance the previous evening, according to police. The child, 19-month-old McKenzie Riegn Speigner, was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

circumstances surrounding the child’s death with assistance from the Alabama Department of Forensic Science. As a result of the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the child’s father.

Kristopher Joseph Speigner, 31, of Enterprise was arrested in Enterprise Monday by Madison police detectives. He was charged with criminally negligent homicide and transported to the Madison County Jail where he is being held on a $6,000 bond.

Police said they have also obtained a warrant for the arrest of Joy Lynn Speigner, the child’s stepmother, for criminally negligent homicide and are making arrangements for her to surrender herself to Madison Police.

Update: Madison Police Arrested Joy Lynn Speigner, 29, for criminally negligent homicide Tuesday. The arrest warrant was served at the Madison County Jail after Speigner turned herself in to authorities. She was booked into jail on a $6,000 bond.
