“Math Mania was a huge competition with 740 students in fourth through eighth grades from all over the state,” Beth Woodard said. Woodard teaches fourth-graders and coaches the math team. “It was extremely competitive and challenging.”

From Madison elementary, 14 fifth- and sixth-graders entered Math Mania.

The fifth-grade team with Josh Lin, Aiden Sims, Jackson Eames and Chris Woodard earned a trophy by placing third in 42 teams from across the state. Josh Lin took ninth place among 145 other fifth-graders.

“Our kids worked so hard and did an outstanding job,” Woodard said. “In the individual tests, all of our fifth-graders placed in the top half out of 145 other fifth-graders.”

“All of our sixth-graders placed in the top 100 out of 169 competitors,” she said. “That is an incredible accomplishment.”
