Singers, dancers and instrumentalists entertain in Horizon Talent Show

MADISON – After initial bouts of stage fright, students at Horizon Elementary School kept audiences entertained in the school’s annual talent show.

With the most participation to-date, 39 students entered the show, which was presented in two assemblies and a PTA program.

“To see a child terrified to be on stage and, after a few practices, be a knock-out performer is rewarding to watch,” coordinator and school nurse Lisa Harmon said. “We can see an increase in self-confidence.”

“The ability to perform in front of peers and family is a huge accomplishment,” Harmon said. “We wish to cultivate a ‘can-do’ spirit and a leadership attitude.”

Teachers used auditions only to evaluate talent. Everyone was allowed to perform.

William Spanier served as emcee. Bianca Harris sang Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” Rebecca Meyer and William Spanier both played piano.

Violinist Lynne Clark impressed the audience. Dance routines included Julian Cyree, “Bad”; Hannah Cleveland, tap to “Happy Feet”; Camille Walters; and Ella Harlow, “Rumor Has It.” Haleigh Byers showed agility by jumping rope.

Vocalists on the bill were C.J. Moore, “Kryptonite”; Hayden Varga, song by Imagine Dragons; Jenny Shaver, “White Horse”; Kyla Deie and Alexis McCoy, “Set Fire to Rain”; Atayah Jones and Carly Roberts, “Pass Me By”; Amy Jones, “Red”; Kiele Dotson, “Free to Be Me”; Parker Shewell, “Lucky One”; and R’e Ross, Sija Headrick and Peyton Childress, “Twelve Days of Christmas.”

Ira Islam and Any Nguyen played piano selections. Hayden Varga, Alivia and Kadance presented a dance segment.

Anthony Cruz and Matt Oscadii sang “Radioactive.” Also singing were Jayla Curtis, “Fireworks”; Sydney Baumbach, “Counting Stars”; Isabel Fursdon, “Skyfall”; Haley Butterfield and Faith Martin, “The Cup Song”; and Ella Isabella and Julia, “Stronger.”

“Every year, I’m amazed at our students, performers and support of our faculty. We’re the best school in the system … just sayin’,” Harmon said.
